Abstract: A series of landmark contributions were made at our laboratories in PDT. Indeed, we were the first to show biodistribution and selective in vivo tumor localization of endogenous porphyrins induced and stimulated by 5-ALA as a newly developed technique. Several other reports showed novel approach by using it clinically with excellent cosmetic results on skin cancer patients. Our present report would assess the effectiveness of this modality on Egyptian patients with various skin cancers. An argon pumped-dye laser was used to emit non-thermal laser light doses. We also present promising clinical trial from using m-THPC on Egyptian patients with squamous carcinoma of the lower lip. Preliminary observations reveal that (1) m- THPC-PDT presents a welcome therapeutic option in treatment of squamous carcinoma of the lips without loss of their function with excellent cosmetic results. (2) Topical PDT with endogenous porphyrins by ALA is very effective in treatment of selected superficial basal cell carcinomas in situ and early invasive squamous cell carcinomas in the skin. !10
