A new measure of aircraft departure susceptibility is developed using robust stability criteria. In particular, the structured singular value is used to measure the size of the largest perturbation in key airframe derivatives before a stability condition is violated. The size of the allowable perturbation indicates the "nearness" to instability and, therefore, the nearness to a flight condition which may lead to departure. A modern fighter aircraft example is used to show that the new metric is comparable to eigenvalue stability maps and more general than traditional departure metrics.
