Hardware/software package for CTD data acquisition with a NeilBrown CTD

The Institute of Marine Science (IMS) atthe University of Alaska has built a low-cost hardware/software CTDsystem (conductivity, temperature, depth) measurement to replace anaging Neil Brown CTD deck unit and 9 track tape drive. The new IMS CTDDeck System includes a commercial power supply, a small hardwarepackage, and microcomputer software which provides enhanced featuressuch as data acquisition concurrent with real-time computer screenplotting of the cast. The package demonstrates that a versatile,reliable, computer-based system can provide low-cost redundancy andserve most CTD data collection needs
