An approach to the distributed database access protocol design

Under the circumstances of intensive proliferation of distributeddata-processing systems and absence of a distributed database-accessprotocol (DDBAP) standard, an approach to the DDBAP design is proposed.In the approach, the remote-database-access protocol (RDAP) is extendedinto RDAP+, and the second layer, containing all necessary functions, isdeveloped on the basis of RDAP+. The conceptual RDAP+ model which isbased on three-agent operation is discussed. The DDBAP features requirethe presence of the third agent, the resource manager, the functions ofwhich are described. The extension of connection management andtransaction management services provided by RDAP+ is considered.Proposals for message formats implementing these features and primitivesare given
