摘要

The effects of voice packet loss on articulation of Chinese speech in packet voice communication systems are important issues. Some experimental results about these issues are presented in this paper. The experiments were carried out on an experimental Token-Passing Bus Local Area Network. Voice signals coded with 16 kb/s CVSD are packetized followed by silence compression and transported on the LAN. Each voice packet contains 50ms voice code, and the packet just preceding the lost one is repeated as a substitute in the receiving end. The most important conclusion obtained is that losing 25% of non-silent voice packets is tolerable while the degradation of articulation of Chinese speech is still less than 3%.
