We present a framework for access control of standard-compliantvideo bitstreams for entertainment purposes. The approach leverageswell-known encryption algorithms and maintains standard-compliance ofthe encrypted bitstream. The standard compliance feature guarantees theinheritance of the error resiliency properties of the video compressionstandards, and works with many existing network bandwidth adaptation anderror control techniques that have been developed forstandards-compliant compressed video, thus making it especially suitablefor wireless multimedia applications. Standards compliance also allowssubsequent signal processing techniques to be applied to the encryptedbitstream. The approach can be applied to any of the common video codingstandards. It is also capable of providing layered compromises betweensecurity, complexity, delay, bit overhead, etc
