A microprocessor-based arrhythmia control system (ACS) has been developed to provide comprehensive automatic control of certain cardiac arrhythmias, including ventricular bradycardia, ventricular tachycardia (VT), and ventricular fibrillation (VF). A dual sensing system, three tachycardia detection algorithms, and two tachycardia confirmation algorithms are used to sense, detect, and confirm cardiac arrhythmias. These algorithms and the sensing system of the ACS have been tested with 27 VT/VF episodes of human intracardiac electrograms. The results demonstrated that the ACS can sense, detect, and confirm human cardiac arrhythmias appropriately.
