摘要

First, a comparison of effectively induced damages on different KE penetrators is presented,second we propose a new, simple graphical procedure to determine the optimum velocitiesof the ERA sandwich plates. Under optimum velocity we understand here that both, theupper and the lower sandwich plate are colliding with their full (half-) length (plate-centerhitsassumed) in a given geometry. This means that a maximum of impulse and energy istransmitted to the projectiles (1). The main parameters are velocity and length of theprojectiles, the impact-angle and the length of the ERA-plates. The new procedure presentedhere goes back on an earlier publication (2) and can also be applied for shaped charges jetscolliding with ERA sandwiches. As to the comparison of the induced damages on theprojectiles we applied x-ray pictures taken after penetration of the ERA as well as residualpenetration data measured in witness-plates. Three different penetrators are fired withapprox 1500m/s through ERA sandwiches with 30° obliquity: Two tungsten monobloc (L/D= 21,8 and L/D = 28,6) and one L/D = 40 steel/tungsten jacketed penetrator. In the layoutpresented here a length of 200mm for the ERA-plates was chosen which is reasonably closeto the lengths of the impacting projectiles (173, 237 and 260mm): The ERA sandwichconsists of 440 BHN steel plates (thickness 3 and 6mm) and a 3mm Nitropenta layer.
