TDWs dial-a-yield technology has been incorporated into large-body test chargesconsisting of heavily end-confined steel tubes. While most tests were designed tosystematically investigate deflagration reactions and relevant parameters influencingtheir stability, additional tests were conducted to prove the scalability of the warheadresponse. Although it can be continuously scaled, three distinct modes wereevaluated for practical relevance and usability: (ⅰ) a low, deflagrative output, (ⅱ) anintermediate output, and (ⅲ) a full, detonative output mode.In addition to these intense experimental campaigns, a novel hot-spot activationmodel integrated into the hydroco de SPEED was proposed reproducing cylinderexpansion results of deflagrating test charges. This model was successfully appliedto various test charge configurations and good agreements between the measured andsimulated tube expansions were achieved.For vulnerability and lethality assessments, SPLIT-X was extended supporting alsolow and intermediate output modes and results were verified through comprehensivediagnostics data. The Collateral Damage Workbench (CDW) provided then meansfor assessing the lethal area against typical MOUT (military operations in urban terrain)targets as well as determining collateral damage (CD) areas. Depending on thetarget and damage criteria of interest, lethal and CD footprints can be significantlydecreased compared to the original, detonative output.
