An investigation is described that studies the effect ofangle of beam incidence using ytterbium fiber lasercladding of alloy 625 (UNS N06625) on matchingsubstrate. The trials include single pass withoutpowder feeding and single pass, 3 pass upslope and 3pass downslope with powder feeding. Power is heldconstant in initial single pass trials and then adjusted tomaintain constant power density in both single passand 3 pass trials. Quantified effects of angle of beamincidence include area of melted substrate, area of cladabove substrate, dilution, powder capture efficiency,side bead angles and progression.
