OFDM Multi-Numerology for Future 5G New Radio Communication Systems

5G New Radio is the next generation of mobile networks that is currently under development. It is designed to work with a wide frequency range, from 1 GHz up to 100 GHz. Due to the need for extremely high data rates, new numerologies are being proposed with sub-carrier spacings such as 30, 60, 120 and 240 kHz, offering more flexibility than the current generation. In this paper we evaluate the performance of a downlink single-user 5G system, in terms of BER and throughput, using different numerologies proposed for 5G networks. Link-Level simulation results enable a better understanding on how the different numerologies affect the behavior of the simulated system within an indoor office and an urban micro-cell scenario environment.
