Resource Balanced Service Chaining in NFV-enabled Inter-Datacenter Elastic Optical Networks

Recently, Network Function Virtualization (NFV) as a promising technology has attracted great interest of the academia as well as industry. Most of the service providers are planning to use Virtual Network Functions (VNFs) to provide agile and flexible network services. In this paper, the problem of allocating both IT resources and optical resources for deploying VNF Service Chains (VNF-SCs) in inter-Datacenter Elastic Optical Networks (inter-DC EONs) is investigated. In this particular, we propose a heuristic algorithm named Resource Balancing Algorithm (RBA) for efficient joint placement of service chains and routing/spectrum assignment (RSA) in inter-DC EONs. The simulation results demonstrate improved performance of the proposed algorithm over the existing algorithm.
