This paper proposes a single-stage isolated AC-DC converter which consists of a full-bridge inverter with a novel switching regulation for battery charging applications. Compared with conventional single-stage isolated AC-DC converters, the proposed AC-DC converter allows gate pulses of each side leg of a full-bridge inverter to be modulated individually in order to realize both a power factor correction (PFC) control and an output power control even within the power range of 2–3 kW without additional components. A 3 kW experimental system of the proposed AC-DC converter was built to verify a high power factor of over 0.99 while controlling the output power independently. Additionally, a maximum efficiency of 91.9% is achieved.
