This study’s primary purpose is to identify the critical current characteristics of YBCO superconducting tapes through experiments, discussing the improvement of the critical current density of YBCO superconducting tapes by using longitudinal magnetic field effect to lay foundations to the future application of YBCO new superconducting cable. In the experiment, we measured the critical current values of YBCO superconducting tapes at different temperatures, different magnetic field intensity, and different angles. Through the analysis of experimental results, more useful information can be provided for superconducting cable developers. The experimental results show that the longitudinal magnetic field has a modest effect on the critical current at low magnetic field intensity while it has a conspicuous effect on the critical current at high magnetic field intensity.
