This paper provides a scientometric review of ecosystem service value (ESV) by co-citations and keywords burst of CiteSpace based on 9306 articles from Web of Science (WoS) core collection, the conclusions as below: It is found that the footprint of ESV research is accompanied by the uncertainty and challenges contribute to the assessment of ESV. 1) the analysis shows that the scholars are more focus on ‘Culture ecosystem service', ‘benefit transfer', ‘sustainable development', ‘pollination', ‘wetland' based on co-citation burst. 2) The hot footprint in the ESV research is ‘spatial analysis', ‘cultural ESV', ‘pollination service', ‘highlighting hydrologic service', and ‘formulaic expert method' based on keyword burst; 3) the trend of research status of ESV is from static to dynamic methods with lower uncertainty; 4) the investigations that related to cultural ESV contribute significantly to the challenge in the ESV research. As can be seen, the development of CSV measurement due to the uncertainties and challenges in the methods of measurement, although some significant progress has been made in CSV, it is critical to make more effort to develop models and methods of assessment about ESV.
