摘要

Fault on overhead transmission line has to be evaluated as soon as possible to keep the good performance of electrical distribution and transmission. Fault can cause transients with the speed of light and propagated across the transmission line. The transients’ wave can be used to detect the location of fault on overhead transmission line. The method to locate this fault called Traveling Waves method. The fault locator device has to be placed in the specific end section of transmission line to detect the transient wave in order to specify the location of fault. This method is widely used just for catch the major or big fault on transmission line. This paper will provide practical implementation of traveling wave method to be used as precaution tools for minor fault on overhead transmission line. Commonly, there is several minor abnormalities in the transmission line that can lead to the major fault. This research will explain about the correlation between travelling wave fault locator data and the actual abnormality through visual inspection. In order to keep the performance on overhead transmission line, traveling wave method can guarantee some information to prevent any major fault on transmission line.
