Design and Implementation of an Intelligent Management System for Consumables in Open Laboratory

A laboratory device storage management system was developed and designed for the problems of open laboratory equipment borrowing and returning processes. This system is composed of embedded system and web-based system, and the data transmission uses TCP protocol. For the borrowing and returning of instruments and equipment, the system has designed a finite state machine to enable the instrument to transfer equipment information between the storage cabinet and the borrower, which improves the working efficiency. The system adopts the method of automatically sending email prompts to remind the borrower to return the instruments and equipment in time, and additionally the Gantt chart information display in the web to intuitively view the current borrowing situation of the instrument equipment. The use of this system makes the process of borrowing and returning instruments and equipments more convenient, and responds to the current paperless, energy-saving and emission-reduction policies, and also reduces the chance of errors when instruments and equipment are borrowed. The promotion and use of the laboratory device storage management system will effectively solve the problem of "borrowing and returning of open laboratory instruments and equipment".
