A New Lightweight Key Exchange Protocol Based on T—tensor Product

In this paper, we define a new matrix algorithm, T-tensor product, and design a lightweight key exchange protocol using the proposed matrix algorithm. The T-tensor product can break the dimensions restriction of key exchange protocol which using the matrix as the basic element in the protocol, and significantly reduce the size of the exchange matrix. In our protocol, the communication parties can generate the key of any size with low transmission overhead. For example, in order to generate the session key with the size 144*144, the communication pairs just need the public matrix with the size 6*2 in the initial stage and exchange the matrix with the size 18*18 in the exchange phase. The communication parties can generate keys of any length according to the symmetric encryption algorithm they used. Therefore, the communication parties do not need to preset the dimensions of the exchange matrix. Meanwhile, the computational cost of our protocol is quite low and stable as the size of the session key increases. This advantage demonstrates that our protocol is very suitable for a limited hardware environment, such as the Internet of Things (IoT) and Internet of Vehicles (IoV), which need low power consumption and high speed in the key exchange.
