In electric power system transients are nuisance that abridge the performance and in worst case cause damage to the equipment. Whereas the quality of power has been a major concern for researchers. While enhancing power quality for better performance of the system by feeding the system with capacitor banks there are some glitches produced. Although this is a swift malfunctioning of the system but cause huge damage on both sides, generation side as well as load centers. In this paper work analysis and mitigation methods of capacitor bank switching transients on 132 kV Grid station has been simulated through the MATLAB/SIMULINK software. Effect of capacitor bank installation is analyzed and reasons of inrush current and over voltages are examined, their effect and mitigation techniques are discussed.This paper explains the implementation of three different techniques for capacitor bank’s safe switching in the system. Results from synchronous switching, pre insertion resistor and current limiting reactor have been analyzed and compared for making the system more efficient.
