Recent Developments in PV - Static Synchronous Compensator

Use of flexible AC transmission system controllers has increased globally due to improvement in the power transfer limits/capacity of the existing transmission lines. In the recent years, many researchers have reported a new usage of the Photovoltaic solar farm as a STATCOM. In this review paper, various aspects of the PV-STATCOM have been presented. The fundamentals of the PV-STATCOM have been reviewed. Advantages of the technology with respect to the conventional technologies have been discussed. Various challenges in the area of the PV-STATCOM have been identified and future scopes of the technology have been presented.
