Community response to road traffic noise in Hanoi Part II Effects of moderators on annoyance

Based on the collected social and noise data surveys conducted in Hanoi within the year 2005, the dose-response relationships and the effects of moderators on annoyance were discussed. The percentage of highly annoyed effects for the top three categories from 11-point scale were almost fitted to Schultz's synthesized curve. No difference was found in annoyance response between males and females. The older the respondents were, the more annoyed they showed. The more negative the respondent's attitudes were to the source, the more annoyed they were, and vice versa. Respondents who are more sensitive to noise, air pollution and hot weather, showed higher score of annoyance. These findings are almost consistent to those obtained by Fields and Miedema et al. While having some typical road traffic noise characteristics as a developing country, community response to noise in Vietnam should be discussed as much as that of developed countries.
