摘要

Based on the data, it appeared that downgrowth and S. aureus count (per unit area) within the periprosthetic region may be a better indicator than using clinical signs of infection alone for assessing the ability of the skin seal to limit bacterial intrusion around percutaneous devices. This model is currently being used to assess the efficacy of various biomimetic-coated percutaneous implants to prevent infection adjacent to these devices.
