The precisely designed microenvironments presented here will facilitate controlled biological studies aimed at understanding the dynamic cell-matrix interactions that occur during fibrosis-related ECM remodeling. Using precision biomaterials to recreate fibrotic regions in vitro could provide novel mechanistic insights into fibroblast mechanobiology that improve disease prevention and intervention.
