We have developed a novel biomaterial with potential as a treatment for central nervous system injury by harvesting ECM from ESC-derived astrocytes. This work shows that astrocyte ECM maintains bioactivity and improves histological outcomes following SCI. In addition, these hydrogels can support cellular transplantation, in this case V2a INs. Future work will focus on determining if transplantation of these HA:ECM hydrogels and/or V2a INs results in any functional respiratory functional recovery following SCI.
