CONSIDERATIONS REGARDING THE DEVELOPMENT OF A NATIONAL CENTER ON GLOBAL COMPETITIVENESS

Global competitiveness is an issue deserving of heightened awareness and more focused action. Over the past thirty years, increasing numbers of countries, companies, and people have recognized that entering the marketplace and competing for sales of products and services offers hope for an improved standard of living. The U.S. must focus the attention of political leaders, corporate leaders, educational leaders, and citizens on those issues deserving of increased attention regarding basic factors affecting our competitive position. This paper addresses the fundamental considerations being given to the creation of a National Center on Global Competitiveness. Some major pillars of interest are outlined. Also, the role of engineers, managers, and other leaders is commented upon.
