A REVIEW OF LITERATURE ON PROBABILISTIC RISK IN HEALTHCARE

Risk management is critical for predicting crises and understanding and mitigating the risk before it occurs. Risk assessment tools must provide valid information in a quantifiable manner to effectively address risk that arises from vulnerabilities common in the healthcare industry and those specific to the healthcare operations and services. This research investigated high-performing health care organizations and peer-reviewed and gray literature to compile the results of various studies regarding the phases of risk management. This paper presents a review of relevant literature and provides a summary of each study investigated. The studies are grouped by risk management phase relevance including: (1) risk assessment, (2) risk identification, (3) risk mitigation, and (4) risk monitoring and control.
