Capacity building in satellite technologies and Earth observation data utilization. Know-how transfer programmes for sustainable development

SSTL is a world's pioneer in small satellite manufacturing and sharing the know-how with space emerging nations. SSTL's experience in providing the Know-how Transfer programmes has resulted in a well-defined course structure that yet retains the ability to accommodate individual customer requirements. The programme also takes full advantage of SSTL's link with the Surrey Space Centre (SSC) at the University of Surrey, offering a range of MSc and PhD research programmes pursuing common research interests of both SSTL and the customer, and in many cases complementing the development of either the customer's satellite or their future plans for an evolved space capability. SSTL owns the majority of the spacecraft technology designs and our training programmes can include satellite design licensing, offering an efficient way to take the first steps in developing a robust space programme and reliable technical foundation. We as well support in-country activities, such as satellite integration, testing and using local suppliers. With the unprecedented track record in delivering training programmes for our customers we expanded our offering to support long-term capacity building in the Earth observation applications development. We acknowledge that the key to a successful long-term national space programme it the uptake of the information coming from the space asset. That's why our role does not finish at the launch of the satellite and we provide extensive training in applications of the satellite technology. SSTL's has successfully delivered 20 Know-How Transfer and Training programmes over the years, training more than 200 engineers. Currently SSTL is hosting a group of Thai Engineers for THEOS-2 SmallSat programme and just completed a collaboration project with Kazakhstan.
