Owner Objectives and Delivery Method for the New Samuel De Champlain Bridge Corridor Project

A rapidly deteriorating condition of the original Champlain Bridge in Montreal, led the Government of Canada to accelerate its replacement. Entailing a 3.4 km long iconic structure over the St. Lawrence River, the works will produce Canada's biggest bridge. This paper explains the need for an accelerated schedule, describes the delivery method used, summarizes the imposed requirements to ensure delivery of a highly durable structure (125-year design life) and key architectural features of the new bridge.
