This paper presents a simple methodology for placing distributed generation (DG) units with the objectives of maintaining the voltages and limiting the loss of the distribution system. Buses have been ranked based on voltages sensitivities and categorized into “strong” and “weak” buses for finding suitable location. The effect of size of DG on system loss is also examined to determine the capacity of DG units. The methodology is successfully applied to a practical primary distribution system. It is observed that the system voltages alter after connecting the DG units. The capacities of the DG units are also governed by the strength of the buses.
