This paper introduces a detailed Model Predictive Control (MPC) technique for Flexible AC Transmission Systems (FACTS). Specifically, an optimized model for Static Synchronous Compensator (STATCOM) is raised to mitigate voltage sag in power systems containing renewable energy resources. This is accomplished through states prediction over finite horizon. An important advantage of the MPC technique is its ability to predict future states behavior over finite horizon. Then, multiple suitable future actions are compared and the optimal decision is detected to achieve very fast response during load transients.
