摘要

In most of the European states, the official policy for municipal waste treatment is to reduce amount of waste, which is dumped to landfills as much as possible. Therefore, the waste is typically incinerated to produce heat and electricity and the residue (bottom ash) can be at certain conditions used for construction purposes. This process typically involves also recovery of ferrous and non-ferrous metals by magnetic or eddy current separators. With technical advancements in the separation technologies, recovery of metals from the smallest size fraction below 2 mm is becoming possible. Knowledge about mass content, speciation, grain size and liberation degree of the metals of interest in this size fraction is therefore desirable.
