Epilepsy is one of the most common neurological disorders and characterized by unpredictable recurrent seizures that affect people of different ages. Seizures may occur during sleep and sometimes referred to as nocturnal seizures. Some seizures can cause injuries or Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy (SUDEP) to patients through involuntary intense body movements. Most of these symptoms are seen in generalized tonic-clonic seizures, and assistance is seriously needed. This paper presents the development of a detection system to help caregivers be alerted and notified every time seizure occurs to an epileptic person. Hence, immediate response and necessary assistance can be provided. The system consists of a wireless wearable device placed on both arms and legs that detect sudden movement of a person with nocturnal generalized tonic-clonic seizure. The wireless device used a multi-channel and multi-dimensional gyroscope module. There is also a base station that receives signal from the wearable devices, which activates an alarm and or sends text messages through Global System for Mobile Communication (GSM). Also, parametric signal recordings is stored in a Secure Digital (SD) card as historical data for the benefit of the doctors in evaluating the patient’s seizures.
