In this paper, we compare two six-core CPUs, Ryzen 5 and Core i7, using the SPEC CPU 2017 benchmark suites. With the geometric means of the SPEC CPU 2017 metrics, the relative performances of Core i7 in SPEC intrate (throughput of integer programs) and fpspeed (speed of floatingpoint programs) are 105% and 78% of Ryzen, respectively. However, with the scores of individual benchmarks, the relative performance varies from 59 to 191% (intrate) and 50 to 135% (fpspeed). We also investigate the scalability of both processors by changing the number of copies (intrate) and threads (fpspeed). In four out of ten benchmark programs in each of intrate and fpspeed, running 12 copies/12 threads versions of the benchmark leads to inferior performance and/or energy consumption than fewer copies/threads.
