Design and analysis of a low phase noise variation CMOS LC-tank voltage-controlled oscillator (VCO) was presented in this paper. A full Wilson current mirror is designed to reduce the phase noise contribution from unstable current source. It brings 5.6dB phase noise improvement in comparison to a traditional VCO with a conventional current mirror. The theoretical analyses are simulated with TSMC 0.18μm CMOS process for Ku-band. The proposed VCO core dissipates 2.2mA current at 1.5V power supply.
