The fluctuation of the voltage of the ship grid can influence the stability of the voltage dependent load. Two new voltage compensation methods that are reactive power compensation method and active power compensation method are based on the structure and voltage compensation method of dynamic voltage restorer (DVR) and characteristics of the ship, which are suitable for the voltage dependent load on the ship. When the voltage of the load is out of the rated range, the former will use the close loop of the load voltage on q axis to realize that only providing reactive power to the system can restore the voltage of the load to the rated range, so this method doesn’t need power storage, and has good economy. The latter which is used for the condition that the reactive power compensation method can’t restore the load’s voltage to the rated range will provide both active power and reactive power to the system to restore the voltage of the load to the rated range, this method’s compensation range can become wider as the capacity of the power storage increases, it is suitable to the load whose variation range of voltage is wide. The two new methods are verified in the MATLAB/Simulink, as a result, they all can restore the voltage of the load within a short time.
