In Internet of Things (IoT), devices and sensors connect each other and exchange information over the Internet. Many IoT devices have limitations in storage capabilities, processing and energy resources. Hence, the wireless networks must be able to dynamically change the transmission rate, according with the channel state fluctuations, with small adequate bit error rate (BER) of communications. The channel noise characteristics are important for management system. Their estimation is realized with varying degrees of uncertainly, considering the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). Since IoT devices have limited processing capabilities, low-computational methods for channel noise estimation are necessary. In this paper, aspects of channel noise estimation are studied, using smaller subsets of the received symbols. Different SNRs and parameter values of subsets are taken into account and simulation results are presented. Good estimation of noise characteristics with lower computational complexity can be obtained.
