Maximum Power Point Tracking of Photovoltaic Systems Using Fuzzy-PID-Based Controller

In this paper, a fuzzy-PID controller for DC-DC boost converter at variable irradiation level in the solar photovoltaic (PV) system has been designed. The problem that PV system has is that the output voltage depends on weather conditions, mainly temperature and irradiance level, which eventually changes the load operating point. Classical controllers such as PI and PID have been used previously that have undesirable transient response. Here, a hybrid fuzzy logic based PID controller is analyzed and designed to control the DC-DC converter acting as a regulator. This proposed model eliminates overshoots and oscillations of the output voltage and ensures maximum amount of power extraction from PV system. The transient response parameters and steady-state errors are analyzed to conclude the benefits of such a control system. The achieved results at different levels of irradiation at constant temperature are shown. Analysis of results supports the advantage and validity of the hybrid fuzzy-PID controller.
