Impact Analysis of Large Number of Non-Linear Lighting Loads on Power Quality in Distribution Network

Lighting loads are considered as a relatively small portion of total load consumed by the distribution side but excessive use of energy-efficient nonlinear loads for lighting purposes sometimes produce high levels of harmonics. Huge harmonics in a power system network may cause voltage distortion as well as power quality problems. Power utilities must follow a particular standard for power quality that would be maintained to ensure the smooth operation of the distribution network including production and transmission line equipment. So, it is important to find out the effects on power quality due to distortion occurred by energy-efficient gadgets. In this paper, different case studies are conducted by using template base load modeling to evaluate the impacts of these types of load combination on the overall system power quality for any distributed network.
