Lift Stations: You Can't Manage What You Can't Measure - Applying Realtime Analytics for Asset Management

Lift stations perform the critical task of pumping raw wastewater toward treatment facilities. As pumps routinely wear over time, they eventually degrade to the extent that station capacity and efficiency are compromised. The authors applied Industrial Internet-of-Things (IoT) real-time analytics for pump asset management that replaces today's decidedly low-tech "run-to-failure" approach. Real-time tracking of pump performance against factory pump curves is the key ingredient to anticipating pump failures and performing corrective maintenance before failure. The proposed approach to predictive pump asset management outlined herein represents the results of our efforts to find a better way for utilities to manage their pump assets.
