West Sumatra and its surrounding waters get a significant influence from the Indian Ocean water mass that undergoes changes both in oceanography conditions and the level of primary productivity in them. This study aims to determine the oceanography characteristics of the waters as well as their relation to pelagic fish density in the Republic of Indonesia National Fisheries Management Area (WPP-NRI). while other parameter data is obtained in situ from BPRL through CTD assistance. The highest pelagic fish density is in the area of West Sumatra Province with a range of 313.3-391.6 mg/m3 with the highest sea surface temperature composition which is 29.7°C −30.40°C. It was noted that the area also had the highest interpretation of the value of chlorophyll-a as well as the lowest salinity value around 31.03 PSU −31.83 PSU. Pelagic fish catches in this study occurred in the transition season II.
