Brushless DC motors are nowadays extensively used in wide range of applications due to its high efficiency and improved performance characteristics. In the modern technological applications like electric vehicles, where there is continuous change in direction of the motor, multi quadrant operation need to be utilised effectively. A Brushless DC motor drive when supplied from an AC supply through an AC-DC converter, suffers from power quality issues. This paper presents a bridgeless buck-boost topology based power factor correction for the multi quadrant operated Brushless DC motor drive to improve the power factor.
