Microgrid (MG) with renewable energy systems constituting small-scale power network, supplying to local loads is the present scenario. However, due to the intermittency from its energy resources, it is difficult to maintain a balance of the power system parameters between the source and load. One of the concerned issues observed is reactive power balance, causing voltage fluctuations and harmonics at the load end. Consequently, the current research focuses on mitigation of these issues in MG. The series active power filter (APF) is incorporated as the compensating device, for reactive power compensation and harmonic mitigation, at the point of common coupling, near the load bus in the MG. The compensation provided by APF is investigated with the application of the novel control technique: Identity Vector Template Generation (IVTG) in real time using its prototype model, which is further compared with a conventional controller in maintaining a constant voltage profile and harmonic filtering.
