Large amplitude fluctuations in velocity and temperature occur in many contexts: boundary layer separation / reattachment, fluidic actuators, pulsating flows for heat transfer augmentation, industrial cleaning processes, fluid mixing, thermoacoustics, etc. Obtaining accurate measurements of velocity & temperature using hot-wire & cold-wire anemometry requires new techniques to compensate for the wire thermal inertia that is dependent on the flow velocity, and addressing the governing nonlinear heat equation. This paper discusses recent developments in constant voltage anemometry enabling real-time estimation of velocity and temperature fluctuations.
