The separation distance between the ±1100kV UHVDC line and an adjacent parallel line in the joint Right-ofWay (ROW) in China is short. The lightning shielding characteristics between the ±1100kV line and the adjacent line are very different from that of single ±1100kV line. The ±1100kV line is long, crossing complex terrains, which will have an additional influence on the lightning shielding. A new method is applied based on electro-geometric model (EGM), which takes the lightning shielding provided by another adjacent line into considering, and calculate Shielding Failure Rate (SFR) of each conductor of ±1100kV line under different conditions. The separation distance between two lines, the polarity of the ±1100kV line and the slope terrain the power line cross are considered. The Shielding Factor Sf is introduced for a quantitative analysis on the shielding effect to ±1100kV line provided by an adjacent line. This paper aims to study the lightning shielding to ±1100kV line provided by an adjacent line under different conditions to provide some useful guidance for lightning protection of ±1100kV line.
