The overall superficial velocity is a main parameter in oil-water two-phase flow in petroleum industry. The velocity distribution in the pipe is important for measuring it precisely. Pulse-wave ultrasonic Doppler technology has attracted much attention in the field of multiphase flow detection recently, which can obtain the velocity profile of fluid along the measurement line. A pulse Doppler measurement system was used in the experiment that contained four dispersed flow patterns in horizontal pipe. A semi-empirical model relied on the experimental data was built to describe the velocity profile of these flow patterns.
