Analytic Model for the Prediction of Cell-Edge QoE of Streaming Video Over Best-Effort Mobile Radio Bearers

An analytic method is proposed for the estimation of the cell-edge bearer-rate required to ensure, with a target probability, the stalling-free reproduction of a streaming video of arbitrary length, given the start-up buffer size and the target video encoding rate. Compared to other relevant methods, the proposed formulation is simpler and in general, involves a more realistic set of system model assumptions. Comparison between theoretical results and simulations shows close agreement, suggesting further exploitation of the proposed method in the context of mobile radio network design.
