Video compression has been a topic of increasing interest in the past few years, due to the upcoming challenges like limited bandwidth to transmit and distribute video sequences. One alternative to face this new era of video processing is the HEVC (High-Efficiency Video Coding) standard. The HEVC is divided into many sub-steps, being the entropy encoding the last one, and it is composed by the CABAC (Context-Adaptive Binary Arithmetic Coding). Some of the most recent and with the highest throughput CABAC architectures can process more than one input coding symbol at once. Therefore, to avoid these symbols generation to become the bottleneck of processing instead of CABAC, this work proposes a novel efficient multi-core architectural approach, named Multiple Residual Syntax Element Treatment (MRSET), to meet the requirements of these recent CABAC designs.
