Proposed enhancement of RFID data standards within the UK library sector

Implementation of RFID technology within the library sector has taken great strides forward over the last decade. ISO 28560 is a recent international standard aimed at providing a common platform to an industry that has initially evolved with a number of implementers formulating their own RFID data storage models. Previous work has highlighted shortcomings in the new standards These shortcomings include the lack of any method to circumvent data sniffing nor any practical method of ensuring data integrity. Data sniffing is a noteable area of concern and one of the barriers to adoption of library RFID technologies. This paper addresses the shortcomings in the standard and makes proposals for future improvements and revision of the standard.
