Study on Development Measures of Railway Freight Transportation Based on Supply Chain Management

Since the pressure of market competition increases daily, the railway transport industry must introduce advanced ideas and change existing management modes to improve competitiveness and achieve sustained profit growth. In view of the traditional railway transportation enterprise operation and management style, we analyze in this paper the current situation of railway freight transport in China and the problems facing the industry. Supply chain theories relevant to railway transportation were applied in analyzing the reform and development of the railway transportation enterprise. The possible routes that could help enhance the competitiveness of railway transportation industry are discussed from a supply chain management perspective. Considering the perishable characteristics of freight products and the decentralized policy, recommendations on service mode and price policies are provided to achieve optimal profits.
