The aim of this work is to study how steady-state flow will be visualized in different locations at Harbin Engineering University (HEU) vessel down-comer which designed by The College of Nuclear Science and Technology at HEU. PIV technique used to quantify the flow velocities at different locations (5 cm, 10 cm) under the inlet location, at the downcomer of the Reactor vessel model. The application of the Particle Image Velocimetry technique to the study of velocity distribution in the reactor vessel downcomer presented. To analyze the velocities in the reactor vessel downcomer, a steady state single-phase flow distribution is required. An experimental setup designed to assist in the characterization of steady state flow problems in Reactor vessel model described. Two different inlet flow-rates applied in the loop. The images of the experiments were captured by, CCD camera. The given images processed on Matlab program. The Post-processing of the PIV data gave quantitative results of good quality. From the visualization of the results, it is clearly to be seen, the velocity flow vectors split and distributed around the inner cylinder, starting from the inlet position and it downwards in the region opposite to inlet position. For velocity measurement, the magnitude of the steady-state velocity at 5 and 10 cm is almost 0.130 m/s when the inlet flow-rate was 0.29 m/s, and 0.129 m/s for 0.26 m/s inlet flow rate. According to the results, The PIV technique proves to quantify the velocities of the coolant in reactor vessel downcomer.
